I wish I were here :-)...when I think that God's Kingdom is even more beautiful than this!!!
Nice pictures. Both my parents hail from north of the border but are Glasgow/Clyde valley mongrels (in the nicest possible sense) rather than kilt n' caber types so i'm not familiar with the Highlands. I have been to Arran though. That was nice. Are you familiar with Northunbria / Hadrian's Wall country? It's quite similar to the above pictures in places.

The city in the background is Inverness and to the East of that the lowlands arguably begin. And culturally, to paraphrase Kennedy, ich bin ein lowlander. I am of partial geordie ancestry (if Northumberland is classed as such) and would like to visit Northern England sometime. The Scots language has some similarity to the Northern dialect and is thought to have been spread during the 'harrowing of the North'. Curiously enough, whilst I support Scottish independence (for mainly political unsentimental reasons) I get the impression that the British isles are remarkably culturally homogeneous except for Southern England and parts of the Midlands. It seems to me that English people from the north are just like Scots (as are many from the midlands and south, but it is the other people from those areas who have the mindset Scots find difficult). It makes me wonder what would happen if Scotland did get independence. If this meant that the 'tartan mafia' were kicked out of London, would the North see that it is actually the East Anglian plutocracy that are running England? If so, would this result in social change? It's an odd one. (Didn't I recently read an influential Tory saying that new cities should be built in the South East and the industrial north should be dismantled?)
